As the Director of the GF METRC IC Design Lab, I am honored to introduce our cutting-edge research facility, dedicated to advancing the field of Integrated Circuit (IC) design. Setting up a lab & teaching program in the area of integrated circuits in Pakistan may not seem like a feasible goal at first glance. This field is extremely challenging due to the complexities involved in design, EDA tools, PDKs & manufacturing from third-party sources like TSMC & others.

We have been fortunate that, with the support of FAST-NU management, GSME, local industry & expatriate Pakistani engineers from around the globe & our extremely hardworking students, we have successfully established & maintained the labs since 2018.

To date, we have graduated over 70 students who are now working in six different countries & we have completed more than half a dozen tape-outs from TSMC & other foundries. Additionally, we operate a design center that focuses on design activities with a team of 20 engineers who hold MS & PhD degrees.

We intend to expand further in the coming years, as a new tailor-made space is being built for both a teaching lab & design center in the new building on campus.
